A saw cuts. A drill bores. And a clamp binds. These are the essential tools a carpenter uses to build. My father is a carpenter and a religious man; he believes that all men and women are God’s tools used to build and create. I wish I shared my father’s strong faith; that although I do believe men and women can be builders, I see far too much sawing, drilling, and hammering without any purpose of improving the world around us. We builders leave behind pieces, fragments, and dust which often cause more chaos than good.
I chose to paint humanity as these tools. As an example I represent my parents as clamps and bolts. They bind together my family which would otherwise fall apart without their strength. Without any knowledge of how to use one’s self, we human beings can cause so much destruction. Imagine the potential when all can work in union.
