This series of paintings was inspired by the fact that I have always found the light through bottles quite beautiful. The light fascinates me as it refracts, bends, and breaks through different shapes and colors. The bottle is a vessel; once filled with its contents, the light through the bottle can be celebrated, humbled, or silenced.
I embrace the idea that the human body is a fragile vessel. Like the bottle, it is beautiful but not empty. From a scientific point of view, the human body contains 60 percent water, and I believe that somewhere within that percentage lies my soul. A body can be filled with compassion, love, hate, anger, or it can be left empty. On the outside one may be beautiful, but only when the insides are most pure can the inner light reveal its full spectrum of colors. The time will come when each vessel is broken or lost, but the contents will always remain. They will evaporate into the atmosphere, leaving behind all impurities, and once again they will become pure and part of everything and everyone.
